« A little disappointing »

Our room was beautiful, Walton hall is amazing. But frustrated that our breakfast was served in the hotel. We booked the hall and wanted full experience of the hall not the hotel. Also we had to find a member of staff to serve us a evening drink in the hall. Seems to be a lack of staff around as you now only use this side of the hotel for functions. Reception desk has been taken away but sign are still directing you. Also we booked our stay as we got married at the venue, I included notes of this on the booking but this wasn’t recognised. Also went to the check in desk in the hotel and mentioned it again that it was a surprise trip. The guy at reception advised he we’ll see what we can do but still nothing :(

Beautiful hall, fab location and excellent service in the restaurant with lovely food. Only faults were no bath plug, service in pool area, free chocolates were Ferraro rocher (not great if you're allergic to nuts) and lack of hot water in shower.

« Disappointing Spa experience »

A very special Birthday for my wife was spoiled by the appalling spa conditions. We were back at Walton Hall ( a favourite place) after many years. We paid over £500 and didn’t get value for money. As pensioners, it was a lot for us to find and probably something we won’t be able to do again, so very sad for my wife of 40 years!

Good leisure facilities and good room with upgrade however bar not cosy, bar staff v slow to serve. Meal was tasty but v quickly served and a bit ‘mass produced’ with frozen rather than fresh veg. Alcohol very expensive.

Have stayed here before and really enjoyed everything. This time we were disappointed with the restaurant menu as there was little choice and the upgrade was (in our opinion) too expensive for what was offered. However the suite was spotless and uncomfortable. We may decide to try again.

2 stars for the nice surroundings and outside of the buildings. The breakfast buffet was good too actually. We stayed in a Standard Double room as we didn’t arrive until 8pm to book a room at the desk - no privilege rooms were left unfortunately. Good - +Breakfast - great selection of hot and cold food +Free drink at the bar on arrival (thanks to Trey on reception) +Gym was pretty well Equiped for a hotel gym The surroundings are lovely and a morning walk is peaceful Bad - -The room smelt badly of damp -The tv was smashed when we switched it on -The room we were moved to next door at 11pm with a working TV had blood stains on the pillow case/bed sheet - Reception nicely let us check out at 12:30pm to use the pool, but the room key stopped working at 12pm (so we couldn’t access the room to get our belongings) - The chap from reception then insisted there was no one to come over and help us, so we had to walk all the way across the ground to reception to have the key reactivated. When I got to reception there were 3 staff just having a chat ?! - When checking out The receptionist didn’t bother to ask how the stay was or if everything was ok, sometimes it just feels like staff act as if they are doing you a favour - The pool is dirty and the changing rooms very badly maintained. Warning tape is plastered across lots of broken fixtures and fittings and there is only 1 shower in use. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, I’m sure there are others that are nicer in the area - unless you really want a country side manor feel OUTSIDE OF YOUR ROOM.

I thought we were staying in a nice spa hotel not a youth club, the banging and talking load outside our room all night , the swimming pool was like a kids club with all the teenagers perving on any female that was in there, no tokens to lock my locker in the changing rooms as there is only 25 for the hole hotel, waiting time at the bar was unreal , one person would be serving while another is washing glasses and another hiding in the back on his phone, the waitress we had for our food ( I think she might be a manager or an assistant as she had a waist coat on) was crap didn’t care how long we sat there waiting with dirty plates in front of us , when she finally took them away she didn’t ask us what we wanted for desert , so after another ten minutes I asked a different person and they got them straight away, we couldn’t wait to get back home, my partner and I had been looking forward to having a break together without the children for a long long time as we have no family near by to look after them, so when my dad offered to look after the children we were really looking forward to a break , we left there more tired than If we had stayed at home and.

We were staying in the Hall. We were very disappointed not to be eating in the Hall and instead we had to eat in the hotel which is a very different experience to eating in the Hall. The Hall seemed to have lost it soul the fire wasn’t lit and the entrance hall was cold and uninviting.No one was around at the hall so we checked in at the hotel reception.

Hotel was very nice, I have stayed in other Mercures before and this one was as good as the others. Staff were very friendly and helpful Downside was the Spa, seemed dated and dirty, to be fair on the day we went there were staff off sick and the hotel porter was managing it, he was very nice and helpful. The facilities were brilliant, very clean pool and sauna, the grounds are plentiful, the mess and stables were so large, the price is great for those rooms. We did not expect the accommodation to be over two floors, with wonderful beds and clean decoration. The kitchen was extremely handy for us for our dinner on one evening. We ate in the restauarant where the food was very good, the staff are very attentive and friendly, we were approached several times by staff just chatting and asking us how we were doing, where we had come from. They seemed interested in us as people not just people in the hotel.

Very pleasant although I have stayed before. However, the satnav takes you to the rear entrance which was closed for repairs. Trying to find the road to other entrance which is on a very tight bend in the dark was a nightmare.
