We had a lovely last minute stay in, the suite was brilliant and have a lovely evening in the bar & restaurant, topped off with a really decent breakfast in bed. The grounds are very nice and relaxing too.

Beds were not initially split into twins as I had phoned up to request, although soon sorted by house keeping. Overcharged for cup of tea in bar, menu said £2.95, barman wanted to charge £3.50, I pointed out price in menu, which he couldn't find on till so charged me £3.25. Extortionate for a tea bag! In restaurant my friend asked for no sauce since in had mushrooms in which she is allergic to. She got no sauce, but there were mushrooms on the plate. Left my phone charger in room and told it hasn't been found. Very disappointed.

The over call impression is good, but the hotel does need a lot of repair work, my door frame was rotten through and I could see that major refurbishment is required

« A pleasant stay in a hotel with strengths and weaknesses. »

The bedroom we were allocated in Orchard Mews smelt musty. The heating was inoperable and as the room received no direct sunlight it was barely warm enough. The swimming pool was delightfully warm and that was extremely enjoyable. The evening menu was limited and the food of reasonable but no better , quality. The breakfast food was absolutely fine in terms of range and quality. Check IN...and check OUT....ARE FAR TOO SLOW . Guests have to stand around for 10-15mins before being seen to.This is unacceptable. Reception staff not overly cheerful or welcoming.....and in no hurry to serve.

I stayed and attended a conference The pool was closed for cleaning so I was not able to have a swim The room was basic and in need of a lick of paint Staff gave me wrong information regarding the location of the expo and sales dinner meaning we could not set up the evening before We had no cutlery on the table when seated - despite us being late to sit down cold coffee was served at the dinner No staff were present to direct around the large site the room we were in was hot and stuffy

I stayed in the original, old part of the hotel which has lovely character. Arrived with all my luggage and had to walk a long way to reception! This wasn't easy with all my luggage as it is the other end of the hotel in the new bit. There used to be a Reception desk located in the old part but this seems to have gone. No soap or shower gel in the room, had to track down a member of staff to ask for some. We were there for a wedding and there was a long wait at the bar to get served all afternoon and evening. No information given about Wifi code or location for breakfast when I checked in. Some of our party walked all the way to the new part of the hotel for breakfast as they were told they couldn't eat in the old part as they weren't from the wedding party the previous day. Overall not the best service during my 2 night stay.

Got to say the experience was pretty poor and not what I am used to from mecure hotels. Myself and my 2 sons had to wait 1hr, 1hr 20mins & 1hr 30mins respectively for our dinner to arrive. It was way past bed time at that point and boys were very tired. Food was pretty rubbish to add insult to the time.

On first arrival to my room, it was not made-up. I called reception and was given a new room within minutes, so all resolved quickly but a big faux-pas for any hotel. The young team in the bar and restaurant lacked direction, and the drinks were terribly slow to be served. The food was pretty good and the hotels surroundings are relaxing to explore. I will be staying here a few more times this year for conferences.

Overall had a good weekend we had stayed before we noticed little things had changed no reception in the Hall so had to check in at the hotel which was quiet busy. In the pool area not kept as clean as should be, the paint work and windows overlooking the pool showed obvious dust and grime and could do with a good clean, the tables were not cleaned whilst we sat In the sitting area near the pool, you now have to pay for beverages there too. We found the staff helpful. The rooms fairly clean. We stayed 1 night in the hotel & 1 in the Hall there was a wedding taking place which we were informed about, but what we weren’t told that our rooms would be directly over the evening reception the music was so loud the floor boards vibrated. It would have be nice to have been told.

My friends and I have been coming to walton Hall Hotel since 2004 and have always enjoyed our stay and spa experience. However, this stay on 31 May to 1 June I can only describe as awful. The staff either ignored you or you felt as if it was their first day as nobody appeared to know where anything was, what they were doing, how to work the til, how to speak to guests. I had to explain to one barman how to make a pot of tea for 3. The tables were not cleared in the bar and at breakfast so you were forced to eat amongst dirty plates and cups. We witnessed 3 other guests making complaints about the food served in the bar. My friends and I were due to have our spa treatments on 1 June as we had booked the 2 days as a spa break. I had a phone call at 10.45 from the spa to say that they could only do treatments for 2 of us as they had staffing problems. i explained that we were all booked in for a 40 min treatment at 11.30 so it was very short notice. We could not simply return home as we had arranged this trip several months ago and booked a day off work. She said we could all have a 30 min treatment and would all be compensated for the shortened treatment. However, the treatments were very rushed and only lasted 20 mins. She was going to contact the spa manager who would contact me. This was a week ago and I have not been contacted. I will not be returning unless I receive some sort of compensation and I will be leaving a very negative review on Trip Adviser as I would not like other guests to be disappointed. I look forward to your thoughts and explanation for this appalling experience. Karen R.

Great location, pleased with the customer service. Having attended a training course where the projector was needed, the technology let us down (half of the forst day we spent keep plugging and unplugging the projector lead to make it work). The overall furnishing feels a bit dated, however it is still fit for purpose.

We had a lovely one night stay. Highlights: Stunning, picturesque setting, good food, warm pool, comfy beds. The only downsides were seeing the old part of the hotel in need of repair and tlc.....it is your jewel in the crown! It seems so neglected compared to the new part. I grew up down the road so know it well. I had to ask 3 times for a child bed, even though it was requested on initial booking. The faux leather chair in our room had rips all over the seat. I had to report it to reception immediately so we didn’t get the blame for it. I think you’d be better off just removing it as it looks so awful! Lunch took over half an hour to arrive in the bar, even though it was only two rounds of sandwhiches and a pizza. However it was a lovely trip down memory lane as we had our wedding reception there 19YRS ago and I would book again.

Bird droppings on curtain. Curtains removed but not replaced. Peeling armchair. Disruption from inebriated and aggressive guests at 3am not dealt with. No steam room and pool closed on second day. Restaurant staff were lovely.

I booked a spa weekend break for my sisters birthday. It began with us arriving 15 minutes before check in and our room wasn't yet ready which was fine and we were encouraged to buy a drink. We did and sat outside as it was a beautiful day. Unfortunately both benches were covered in bird poo which the amount must have been there sometime as there was a lot! Could do with more outside seating as this was really lacking for such a large hotel. We checked in and went to our room in the main building. Our room was not good! Room 31 avoid! Made as a double when we booked a twin, air con broken, facilities missing and carpet wet and to top it off view of the bins. Not what we had booked. A staff member in the main building from the bar couldn't believe that we were given that room as people had been moved from there over previous days due to same problem. Trying to get this sorted wasted 2 hours of our potential spa time. We eventually got moved but had to accept a double room, only apology was being given one drinks voucher each which wasn't acceptable for the £250 I had paid for the experience. We then went to the spa, it was clean and relaxing until children decided to water bomb jump in the pool. Shame the steam room was out of use and this wasn't mentioned on booking or arrival. Dinner was probably the best part of the stay. The female waitresses were attentive and one male waiter. Unfortunately the younger male waiters appeared in their own world ignoring guests. Especially the ones behind the bar. The food was lovely, couldn't fault it, really good variety on the menu. We retired to our room with a bottle of prosecco for a girly evening. Early hours we ordered room service, the night staff were lovely! The bed was comfortable and we had a good sleep, bathroom facilities were of a good standard but bath panel needs attention, handle on wardrobe was broken. We were missing a hairdryer in our room and reception didn't answer the phone to have this rectified. Lovely view from this room, where we enjoyed a firework display from the wedding. Early morning we were woken by the spa wanting to change our treatment time due to lack of staff. We overheard this the previous day and they reassured us that ours wouldn't be affected, however it was and was brought forward. This meant we needed to rush getting ready and go to breakfast. Breakfast was okay, staff however need to replenish food quicker as variety lacked as was busy. We both had a back massage which was okay, not the best. Neither of us would book that treatment again as she was very firm on the back making it not very relaxing. We used the pool again before we left, it was quieter than previous day. Afterwards we then decided to look around the local area as it was pouring with rain so was unable to walk around the grounds. Overall we were disappointed over the experience. It is clear that wedding guests are their priority as we were clearly moved into a room that we hadn't booked. Staff need more training, especially on the bar and a smile goes a long way. I am gutted that it wasn't as advertised as my sisters birthday didn't end up being a surprise, relaxing weekend.
