« Not quite the service I am used to at the Fairmont »

There was an LED light in my room in the ceiling above my bed that flashed all night the second night I was staying and it disturbed my sleep significantly. I informed the front desk and was told simply "Oh, ok I will have someone have a look". I came back from my day of work and was not sure if the light had been fixed as there was no note or message left. I checked with the front desk by phone and they were not sure at first either. A more apologetic response at the front desk as well as a more significantly follow up after the light was fixed would have been appreciated. Thank you, Albert

Shame on me, but I did not realize it was United Nations week during our stay at The Plaza. So our stay was less than ideal. The Plaza stay has been a "bucket list" item for my wife, so I surprised her with this stay for a couple of nights while in NYC. However, due to the UN taking over the hotel, The Plaza's reputation for exceptional service was not evident as staff was obviously more focused on the dignitaries staying at the hotel than others. In fairness, when we were able to engage The Plaza staff, they were very pleasant and willing to help and provide assistance, however, it was very obvious staff was overwhelmed with the demands of the dignitaries during the UN week. We were able to have Afternoon Tea at the Palm Court and had a wonderful time. The Palm Court Manager was superb! However, here is a more frequent experience during UN week: at one point while my wife and I were waiting for an elevator to go up to our room, a dignitary's security guard (Not a Plaza employee), was holding an elevator. Once an elevator arrived that we were going to get on, we were quickly shoved into the elevator he had been holding by other security guards. As our elevator doors closed, we saw the dignitary getting on the elevator we were going to take. I know this is not the usual Plaza customer experience or circumstances.

« Wonderful - but a little disappointing! »

On arrival there were no porters and we had to wait and then bundled in with another group. On check-in we were told we had been upgraded to a balcony room. Initially we were excited but when entering room all I could smell was smoke. Our butler arrived after that and offered to move us to another balcony room which was smaller. We thought that opening doors would clear the air so to speak to find six cigarette butts on the balcony. We had been travelling for over 40 hours from Australia and decided to stay in the room. A cleaner came to clean patio. During the next two days we were aware that these rooms are offered to smokers and we found quite a few people of the balconies smoking. Non-smoking guests should be made aware!. also out toilet was leaking water onto the floor. Engineering did come and clean it up but it did leak for two days. Staff in the lobby lounge were wonderful.

This was my first time staying at The Plaza, or a hotel of this caliber. The bellman were friendly and helpful. The front desk was super nice and helpful. The hotel was beautiful. The room was beautiful. Icalled the concierge with a question and was greeted by name and with such courtesy. Room service was fast and friendly and delicious.

The wait staff in the left side bar areas were amazing! The were friendly, efficient and customer service oriented. However, when we had dinner for four on Saturday evening in Palm Court, the lady who waited on us was not friendly, service was slow and the bill exorbitant for four people. However, we did not let that ruin our evening or define our enjoyment of our stay.

My experience was not perfect. The room overall, was adequate, but not extraordinary. There was also a light over the head, that would never turn off. We had to sleep under a spot light which was incredibly uncomfortable.
