The check in process was very poor. We arrived very early, knowing a room would not be ready, we asked to be sent a text when a room was ready. No texts arrived, so we checked at the desk around 3 hoping a room might be available, we were told it was clean and waiting inspection and would be ready soon. Still not text so we checked again at 4, and were told there was a delay and we would receive a text very soon. Still not text, we checked again near 5.30 and were told we should have received a text, which we did not and were finally given keys to a room. Upon checking in the room had a heavy cigarette odor, we left the window open and it helped clear the odor. I have always enjoyed my stays at the empress, and will likely return, but this check in process was a disappointment. I feel that after the 4 pm check in time we should have been given a different room.

« Our room was lovely and ALL the Gold staff were helpful, pleasant and, made our stay perfect. »

This was our second stay in the same lovely spacious king room with a wonderful view of the harbor. As before, the gold staff from assistant managers to servers made sure all our needs and wants (although few) were promptly addressed. This was a night to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my birthday in advance. We will return again!

Looks nice on outside, with beautiful view of harbor. Staff are great and address you by name. But that's it. The room rates are excessive and rooms are old and in need of upgrades. Carpet in hallways are old and tired. Elevator in our area was not working. Very complicated maze to find your way to reception/restaurants and parking - no signs to help navegate. The parking rates are ridiculous. What type of hotel charges for 2 days when check in is at 4 pm and check out is at 11 am - it is actually just one day in my opinion. High tea was actually a low tea and over-rated - very crowded and noisy. We've had high tea in London, so we know what to expect. We should have taken our tea at the Butchart Gardens. We're one and done at the Empress. Next trip to Victoria we'll stay elsewhere.

Good Afternoon Madam, Sir, The experience at Fairmont Empress is impressive because of its legacy, the building and the outstanding location .... but, this is it. I am fairly disapointed by the total lack of attention and recognition for the Le Club AccorHotels Gold members. The bar does not want to redeem free drinks vouchers, this is really the very first in my global stay at AccorHotels that I face this issue. The personnel has no clue how to redeem Le Club AccorHotels points and it took 45 min to check out of the hotel. Overall, this is a huge miss to impress me. The room was not ready when I checked in at the hotel, nor I did I receive the promissed text message to let me know that the room is ready. The facilities are way outdated. The swimming pool is no better than a US average motel. The Le Club AccorHotels experience is inexisting. Overall and because of this drawbacks, I ask you for a partial refund of my hotel stay. It is not normal that a bar tender does not accept to redeem a Le Club drinks gifts, nor to spend 45 min for a check-out. My issues were really annoying and I ask for a cash compensation for the lack of positive experience.

The service and are room was great ! The only issue was the elevator . We were staying on the gold floor and are room was on the 3rd floor . It was a bit of a inconvience.

« Loved everything about it »

The service was impeccable, the bed was comfortable, the room spacious and luxurious. We made use of the Fairmont Gold Lounge, for breakfast and also for an evening snack, and of course we enjoyed high tea on our first day in Victoria. This is the type of hotel experience by which to measure all others. Everything was excellent.

Room could’ve been cleaned better (under benches near windows was very dirty, and easily visible when lying in bed). Service was good. Tea service was alright (I’ve had better at other establishments in Vancouver at same price point). Room updates felt cheap (for example bubbling / warping tub liner. Why not just buy new tubs?)

« Very satisfactory, but missing the unique charm »

i stay in a lot of hotels and I’m willing to pay more for something special . The Empress has a unique place in Victorias identity. However there is a lot of competition. Many hotels offer downtown location with comfortable and generic rooms. So what makes ( or made ) the empress worth it.? The grounds, seaside location , and charming castle-like exterior are starters. So far so good. Afternoon tea: major plus. But ... what’s been stripped away: 1) the updated rooms are fine, but the older style furniture added unique class 2) the hallways are too dark and grey - almost funereal . Thank God there are still some old pictures to add some charm and warmth. 3). The Bengal Lounge was a real gem that kept that wing of the hotel alive and offered a stellar Empire feel to the hotel . Also it was a fantastic place for live Jazz. Why on earth did management decide to kill that jewel ? 4). The new bar and restaurant really lose the atmosphere of the hotel, They are the wrong solution . They are too generic and are easily matched at other generic hotels. You could be in the Taipei Sheraton or the Chicago Marriott for all you know. I think management needs to reconsider what it took to get the Empress to the position it enjoys in the heart of Victoria. Going the sanitized modern route is a freeway to oblivion- too many other competitors already have mastered the generic hotel formula - and they are cheaper .

« Good bits and disappointing bits »

The hotel was in a great location and the check in and concierge service was great. It was hard to get to sleep as you could hear every single person walking past our room - there was no sound proofing whatsoever and guests talking and laughing loudly meant we got to sleep well after 1am. The room service breakfast was lovely but the food at the verandah was not good. And the only other complaint we had was that Barb in the Tearoom has to be one of the rudest people we have ever come across. But everyone else was lovely

Everything was great except our champagne delivery had a hiccup. It was resolved but not as swiftly as we had hoped; we ended up drinking our bottle around midnight instead of earlier as planned. I also found the bed to be uncomfortable but my fiance loved it. Overall it was great and we would definitely stay at the Empress again.
