From check in to check out everyone was helpful and welcoming. The young woman who cleaned our room on Thursday and Friday was great. Service and comfort were great. My only complaint is the smell in the lobby. When I checked in I thought the gentleman who checked us in just had bad cologne on but then I realized after a few days that it’s just the lobby smell. It’s not pleasant and very overwhelming especially when it is so hot outside. You don’t need it in your lovely hotel.

Washington DC is our favorite American city and the Fairmont is our favorite hotel. We spend 15 nights a year at the hotel year after year. Once again we had a lovely stay, we booked a capital corner suite but we were upgraded to even a nicer room. We enjoyed the lavish buffet breakfast in junipers each morning and highly recommend booking the breakfast included rate.

Everyone was very helpful and nice. Unfortunately, our room 1025, had a very strong "earthy" smell to it which hit you as soon as you walked in. They tried the Ozone machine and whatever they could, but I thought it probably had something to do with the carpet or a vent located close to the door. We got used to it and just stuck it out. The only other thing was the shower. Although I love a high pressure stream, I have two young children and it was just too hard for them. The shower was not adjustable in the respect. I think an adjustable showerhead is the minimum in this situation in order to allow young children and older people who might be more susceptible to shower without discomfort. The breakfast was spectacular and your concierge folks were very nice and helpful.

Quality of the amenities were on point as you'd expect from a Fairmont property, but was disappointed with how a misplaced room key was handled. My travel companion had lost his key and rather than the front desk staffer contacting me to verify his identification, my companion was told he had to purchase another room. All the correct information could have easily been verified by a phone call to me, but when I found out about this the next morning and went to inquire, I was told that there wasn't anything that could now be done because my guest had slept in the room. At the time of the incident, my companion said the front desk clerk would not allow me to call to verify and only gave him this option (to purchase secondary room) Main points are this, while I should have added him on the room account, making someone pay full price for a room at 3am (8hours) without a simple phone call to the room holder (myself) seems like terrible customer service and quite frankly a money grab. I've stayed across N.America and have had similar key/room mix ups solved before with a simple phone call; not making that guest double down on an additional room. Love staying on Fairmont properties for the great amenities, but this incident will cause me to look for other lodging options in the future.

The staff make all the difference in the world. From the doormen, one of whom has been there for over 17 years, to the front desk, operator, and housekeepers, we were made to feel welcome. Our needs were not only met but anticipated. Couple that with a great location and up to date facilities and you have the recipe for a wonderful stay.
