It’s a long story. We checked in at 3 pm on 2nd August,paid 180 AZN to upgrade the city view room to a sea view one. We found bathroom leaking at 3:10 pm. We called, reported and waited for fixing. Two engineers appeared at 3:25 pm, and it was fixed at 3:50 pm. When I had a bath, a new problem came. There was no hot water. Engineers were called again and came at 4:10 pm. After they left, there was still no water at all, so we reported for a third time. They worked for a long time. At 6:40 pm, the bathroom finally worked. We had planned to visit the old city of Baku in the afternoon but it was obviously not possible because of such disorder. We talked with a female employee who was on duty then. She promised to change our room within 30 minutes. But it didn't happen. Half an hour later, she replied that other rooms on the same floor were full and she could arrange the room on the 10th floor for us if we moved from our already checked room on the 21th to one on the 10th. It was not acceptable because we didn’t make any mistake and they made mistakes but due to their mistakes our proper interest would be reduced. Of course we didn’t agree. So we went out and just walked along the seaside for a while because sightseeing places were closed as we were dealing with the hotel affairs. We returned to the hotel after supper and at about 11 pm, we found water in the room was totally cut off, but we had been not informed before it happened. We went out of the room and found occasionally engineers repairing in the workshop right next to our room. We asked them several times when bathroom could work again. One of them promised every time that the water supply would be running within five minutes. But it did not. At 11:40 pm, we had still no shower after such a long time. We went downstairs to the reception and talked with that female employee mentioned before. She said that it was so hard to arrange the fixing work because engineers belong to another department, which is different from hers. But she promised to have a try and she would ask a new engineer to go upstairs to deal with it as soon as possible. But no one came upstairs and the two still repaired. Eventually, at 00:15, bathroom worked, but water contained volatile chemicals with a strong odor. We would like to change the room but the reception thought that the room ran well and we could stay. She never felt sorry about it and never apologized for the inconvenience. We refused, argued with her for several minutes. The reception agreed to upgrade our room to a suite without any extra fee. One option is that we could move immediately but stay until the end of the journey and paid the suite fee for next two nights. We refused. The other option is that we stay in the same room on first two nights and move on third night. We decided to move on third night because we felt so tired after much argument. Reception agreed and promised she would arrange for us. On the morning of 4th august, reception changed and another female employee was on duty. She said she knew nothing about this plan. Another male employee came and found our changing information. But she said that we could not move because the suite was not available. We should wait until other guests check out. We left and went outside to visit the city with the wish that they finish it before we came back. On the night of 4th August, the original female employee was on duty. She should have arranged this but she refused to upgrade our room without any reason. She could refund our 180 AZN by changing from city view to sea view room. She thought upgrading us to a suite after so much disorder is a too high award. So what she had promised is nothing at all and she treated us like kids and just cheated and cheated again and again. She was a great actress and deserved Oscar. What’s more, on 3rd August some employees cleaned our room but they left the door opened. As we came back, we found the door not closed. We had left our luggage in the room but obviously the room cleaner neglected. If any theft happened, who will take responsibility? They will kick the ball again and we deserve the damages. Fairmont hotel ruined our vacation and we were hurt a lot because of such annoying treatment. It has a low level of conditions of the room and equipment. It cannot make sure that guests in the room can have a comfortable life. It doesn’t understand what “the quality of service” means. The reception doesn’t help at all. They lied and were even treacherous. Guests could not rely on them. I regret that I chose this hotel and feel so disappointed. Certainly this hotel doesn’t match the level it has announced. I grade what this hotel achieved.

« Poor experience compared with other alternatives in Baku (for example Marriott) »

I stayed at room 813 last week. On arrival, I found out that the room was missing: iron, hairdryer, dental kits. Having called the reception, I had to wait for more than 25 minutes to get both iron and hairdryer. I still didnt get a hairdryer and had to leave the hotel to be on time for my meeting. The same applies to long wait for a room service. In general, I come to Baku every 2 weeks and was looking for alternatives to Marriott. However, having stayed at Fairmont last week, I wont be choosing this hotel again.

I was really impressed by this hotel. The Club room was extremely comfortable and the panoramic view magnificent. The staff couldn't do enough for us and were always happy to please especially Murad and his colleagues in the lounge. They made bookings for restaurants including the revolving restaurant nearby which is a 'must do' The swimming pools were much appreciated. Overall an excellent stay and I will certainly return

Overall it is nice hotel. But we had our wedding night and we wanted to relax as in our Deluxe room, but stuff at the reception were trying to sell us all options of upgrading the room and trying to let us know that we have just a "standard" room and if we want something better. That was unnessassery info for us as a just married couple. Impression was quite shuttered after that.

The hotel is beautifully designed - lovely pools and sauna/steam room area. The sauna has a glass wall with a view of the sea. The suite was spacious, with a lovely bathroom and view. It's an absolutely beautiful hotel. The service however, is not efficient - maintenance is poor (no remote for bathroom TV, despite engineer coming immediately to fix trailing wire giving electric shocks), soap holder on a slant to that wet soap slid off when it was put there, flannel collecting water drips in the toilet in the executive lounge. In the executive lounge I asked for lemon to go on my fish - after waiting 30-40 mins I gave up waiting and ate my by then cold food. Service there was inconsistent - on the first night our wine glasses were topped up but not after that. Plates were not cleared at breakfast or afternoon and I had to put them on another table for collection. Not enough staff in the lounge. Very few customers there (16 max) so I don't understand how the service was so poor. There seemed to be only a limited number of milk jugs so I had to have cold milk in a cup - this of course didn't pour well into my tea cup. The system for providing coffee was very slow. Tea only came in a tea pot if you asked for it. There are 2 lovely outdoor pools but we got told off for going in the second one. If it's not to be used by hotel guests then there should be a barrier or notice up. The indoor pool is also beautiful with spa-type sitting pools/jacuzzis.
