The air conditioning was not functional. Rooms were stuffy because of lack of proper air circulation due to poor airconditioning system. Breakfast for vegetarians was missing and no interest by anyone in taking care of requirements. We practically remained hungry despite having paid for two breakfasts everyday.

« If it weren't for your concierge....... »

The concierge was very helpful and made our stay very nice. However, we paid for the Suite, which the champagne and sweet treats was a very nice welcome, the air conditioning DOES NOT WORK! For 600 a night, you'd think it would We were so hot, we couldn't sleep. I booked your hotel due to the fact that I have stayed in Europe before in the summer and actively looked for a hotel with AIR CONDITIONING. Your website says you have it. You are paying for electricity for a system that doesn't work, so to me, that makes no sense, as you are wasting the electricity as the unit ran forever but no cool air comes out. I know it was a heat wave, but you shouldn't advertise air conditioning when it does not work. Other than that, the breakfast were good, room might have been comfortable if we weren't sweltering all night long, but it does need some new furniture.

The room was very spacious for my friend and I, however, there was no Air Conditioning, and the room was very warm upon arrival. Were it not for the delivery & use of (2) fans, and the light sheets on the bed... it could have been a disastrous stay. But it wasn't. Very nice hotel, very nice lobby w/seating & cooling beverages. Concierge was very helpful as well. Thank you.

Great location. Excellent breakfast. Poor air conditioning—disappointed that could not get room cooled down resulting in uncomfortable sleep. Understood issue of prior week heat wave but seems unusual that one week later the air conditioning system was still not operating at peak performance

« Ok, fell short on a particular service request. »

Overall ok. Satisfied, good: the reception. Border line: breakfast starts at 6:30am. Should be 6:00am. Many businesses start early. Unsatisfied: left a piece of clothing in the room. Multiple phone and email requests did not result that the item was found. Stopping by in person, the receptionist could identify an item and returned it to me. Why was I not contacted - even so I talked to a person on the phone and informed via email.

Wonderful staff - every single member I came across in the 4 nights stay was friendly, humourful and helpful. The room was spacious. Swiss air conditioning regulations are environmentally protective but make the rooms rather uncomfortable in hot weather. A few items could have been better maintained eg globe in RHS bedside was dead, shower head needs de-calcifying to prevent spraying everywhere, bathroom lighting not very well thought through.

« From a warm stinky room to just a warm room »

I appreciated the fact my room was changed after the report of a heavy smell of stinking sweat in the room, but didn't appreciate being presented with this room in the 1st place. In this heat blankets in sheets aren't necessary. for the rest everything was fine and staff was most helpfull

The hotel is conveniently located especially for the Messe Basel. However, the building and rooms are rather dated. The air conditioning is cleary not state of the art as it couldn't cope with the soaring temperatures at all. All you got was a still warm room but with a horrible stale smell. As a compensation the water in mini bar was free of charge, however, even the mini bar fridge did not cool properly. Also cleanliness is an issue e.g. I had a dirty face towel from a previous guest in the bathroom in the hair dryer compartment. And you got that feeling this was not the only corner cut when cleaning the room. Front desk staff was absolutely lovely - couldn't fault them. Very friendly and extremely helpful! The restaurant for dinner however, was not such a pleasant experience. Mediocre to bad service, on the second evening we walked out after drinks and took our business elsewhere (16 people).

The worst hotel experience I can recall. The air conditioning did not have any effect at all apart from making a lot of noise and moving the hot air around. This was my first ever visit to Basel but I'll be travelling to Basel regularly.

It's been a few years since my last visit but hotel and rooms felt tired and dated, much in need of a refurbishment. The air conditioning did not work very well. One morning the lights did not work (with guest card in the slot). I visit basel frequently but will ask for alternative accommodation next time

« very friendly staff but the breakfast was a bit chaotic with orders being forgotten »

We always enjoy staying at the Swiss Hotel mainly because of the location but the receptionist and the concierge team were most helpful this time . The rooms are fine but slightly dull and my wife much prefers bathing than showers. I did not specifically request a bath so i was to blame. We were in room 401. We were hoping for a late check out but that was not possible . Unfortunately i was not able to use all your facilities, the gym or the free drinks or the bar.

« great hotel if they could get the air conditioning correct »

the hotel is nice, and in a great area. The GYM needs some more equipment to bring it to the next level. The gym is TERRIBLY HOT. The rooms are also. They don't quite cool enough, leaves humidity in the room. A sheet to cover yourself at night, in addition to the comforter would be nice.

But your comment shows me, that our technical department has to regulate the temperatures even more sensitive. Glorious few days and nights, with cordial and helpful service! Clean and comfortable accommodations at Swisotel Le Plaza Basel and the location was excellent to anywhere in town. The restaurant was a little pricey for breakfast but had a great array of choices.

It was a lovely clean place just wasnt much interaction with the people that run it and us , they kinda left us to figure out things, we came down to breakfast and they were just chatting and didn't show us the ropes, for what we paid I'd go back again as location is perfect.
