« Very poor customer service »

The hotel grounds are beautiful and the bed was comfy. Great location if you’re visiting Harry Potter. However the hotel relies on this as the level of customer service was poor. The advertised 24hr room service was not available due to only one staff member being on duty, the bar had nothing left on draught due to “the weather being hot” and there were bugs crawling round the bathroom. Very disappointing stay and would not return.

« Very poor service this time around »

We have previously stayed here twice before and the hotel and service have been exceptional. This time was a massive disappointment. We arrived to find that none of the staff were the same as the last 2 visits and the staff that were available seemed completely under trained and in over their heads. Our room had been downgraded without our knowledge due to a technical fault, we were then offered £20 off the room as compensation. This seemed a little underwhelming but we didn't really have a choice but to accept. After checking in we were advised that both of our cards had been declined due to another "technical fault". By this point it just seemed like blatant incompetency. We will definitely think twice before staying here again which is such a shame as it was previously a wonderful hotel.

Picturesque venue and lovely staff, only quibble is that when I arrived I was asked if I’d like breakfast in the morning, “£20 for two people.” I wasn’t asked if I’d want it for the second morning but have been charged anyway, even though we didn’t go for breakfast.

Poor, no tea and coffee in rooms , asked for it and took 2hrs , food at bar took 50 mins to arrive and not busy. Rooms average, pool awful , dirty area , should close it or spend money on it .

« Not quite what I would expect from this top chain of hotels. »

It is the little things that were missing or not quite right with this hotel. Basically, the hotel looks impressive and could be so much better if the little things were attended to. Plastic cups in the bedroom, very basic bedrooms and the decor which is now looking faded. It felt like the hotel was really cutting back.

Lovely venue, food was good to. We were there for a wedding, the lack of staff & lack of drinks in the bar due to beers being off & fridge less than 1/2 full & empties all on the bar from the night before is the reason for my low score.

From the moment I checked in I knew it was going to be an experience as the young man was particularly rude and people was getting all the wrong rooms? I just think your beautiful hotel is let down a lot by the inadequacies of your staff of lack of at times the most helpful people I found was your cleaning staff and the poor lad at the bar who was on his own most of the day ?

« While the venue was very nice, I thought the cleaning was poor and as a wheelchair user various elements could be improved. »

I was allocated room 8 a wheelchair accessible room. It had some issues as follows: the room was small with little space to move my chair around - I could not go beyond the bed to the phone or TV; the bathroom had a walk-in shower and seat which was fine but there were no grab rails in the shower area. Grab rails around toilet but toilet was low to the floor so difficult to get off. Cleaning of room poor; toothpaste from previous guest on door frame, soap taken on second day and not replaced, my own towel was taken (obviously didn't check it's design). Carpets in hallways very grubby. Poor access to gardens for wheelchair users - need to review your provision. Lack of bottled water in training rooms and slow to refill when asked.

I didnt stay.. an unruly party arrived at the hotel and they lost control. Checked out as didnt feel safe. Still awaiting full refund as not happy with the offer of a 20% refund when I didnt stay. Given 3 as the grounds itself are stunning. Aimed at weddings/events not general stayers.

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location with extremely helpful staff unfortunately there appears to be some communication problems I am 70 years old and I ended up sleeping on a single put you up in a double room after specifically asking for a double bed and a full single bed and explaining the reason why. Staff tried the best. The hotel is in a wonderful location has good stuff stuff but unfortunately is in need of refurbishment and a good clean. The pool area is very wanting overall would not return until it has been refurbished

Lovely hotel but on arrival around 4pm we asked about the swimming pool. We were told we needed a separate access card which we were given. However we were not told that the pool is unavailable until 6pm, therefore decided to swim in the morning. Went to the pool the access card we had been given did not work. Swim abandoned (again) On checking out we mentioned the problem and were told at that point a new access card is needed each day.

« Loud, Rude Staff »

The walls in this hotel must be paper thin because I could hear what every other guest was up to and got barely any sleep! The lady who checked me in was also exceptionally rude and took at least 20 minutes of silently clicking at the computer to finally give me the key! She also charged my card by mistake after I had paid for the room in cash. I understand mistakes happen but she wasn’t very apologetic and made me feel as though I was simply an inconvenience. On a positive note, the beds are very comfortable.
