« Lovely charming hotel- but bed bugs! »

The hotel is a lovely old grande same in a good area for walking around, right across from great shopping and restaurants. Staff was helpful and accommodating. The in-hotel restaurants we're pretty empty, not great for a single Traveller, but the front desk was very helpful with suggestions. Lots of mosquitoes on the property but that's difficult to avoid given all the gardens and courtyards. However, I did wake up the next morning with several bed bug bites (I'm sure they weren't mosquito bites) but didn't realize until I was at the airport. When I contacted the hotel they didn't respond, hence the public review.

The staff are fantastic! Warm kind and very helpful. The hotel quarters are amazing - beautiful colonial buildings with lush greenery. The room could use a more thorough vacuuming. The spa should be more appropriately priced. The reception insisted that the hair saloon was the best in surabaya.... so I made a decision to blow my hair before an important presentation.... I was very disappointed as my appointment was mixed up and they clearly did not have skills for a professional service. Although the attending staff did the best she could I felt the reception really misrepresented the service and I made an important decision based on that. I also felt the food selection at the breakfast in Indigo could improve- food was served cold, flies all about and didn't feel fresh. I asked to try the award winning apple strudel. ... I got an old, cold, still frozen slice that was not enjoyable at all. Inspite of this the kindness and warmth of the staff is the 5 star experience. So obliging so pleasant and so cheerful. The rooms keep to an old style and are maintained very well. Very good space and certainly contributed to a relaxing stay.
