Paula was very helpful. The meals were good. The room good with an excellent TV. It appeared short staffed as we had some problems when we wanted to ask reception for anything and also the bar was unmanned until we found Paula who sorted it.

First room we were given had damp patch on floor, smell of off milk or possibly someone having been sick in the room. Paint peeling off window frames, which need replacing. Bedside lamps not plugged in Nd had to move beds to do it ourselves. No air conditioning and no refrigerator which I always thought were standard with Mercure. Guy on desk however was very helpful and moved us to a privilege room which had air con and they managed to get a not very comfortable sofa bed for us as we had our daughter with us. I slept on it as it was very thin and could feel frame and springs through the very thin mattress.

I arrived about 7.30pm after an horrendous 5 hour journey. I registered, went to my room and then I went straight in to the bar ordering two beers, one to drink and the other to take in to the restaurant at 8.15pm. There were 5 people dining, two had finished, three were still waiting for desert. No member of staff was apparent. One member of staff eventually appeared but ignored me. I called for his attention and asked for a menu. None were available and after another 15 minutes one had been printed off for me. The waiter disappeared again. I ordered eventually at 8.40pm . I chose a medium rump steak, the most expensive item on the menu. After ANOTHER long delay he returned to ask whether I had ordered a medium or a rare steak. By this time both beers had been consumed and I went to the bar to get some wine for my meal. The meal arrived about 9.10pm. The plate was not a dinner plate, much smaller. The salad was extremely small, more a garnish, the onion rings and chips were tasteless and obviously deep frozen, and the steak was black. I left the restaurant immediately after 9.30 and went back to my room. The night was difficult and mainly sleepless as the constant noise from the main road was intrusive. I asked to see the manager the following morning, hoping to be constructive in my criticism but was told that the hotel did not have a manager and the receptionist/acting manager would not be in until Thursday......... I paid my prepared bill in full and left

The lady on reception (Paula) was extremely helpful and really lovely. The room was clean and we had a great nights sleep. I thought the breakfast could have been cooked better (hence the 9) but my partner enjoyed it.

Very disappointed. Booked 2 rooms and both were equally disappointing. Bathroom taps continually dripping, wallpaper peeling of walls, carpets covered in dust where vacuum doesn’t fit unless you use the nozzle. Drawers not cleaned out. Bathroom door didn’t close. Had our evening meal in the restaurant only one main course available for the price this was a really small portion. Took restaurant staff 30 mins to clear the empty plates but then didn’t return for offer deserts or coffee. Breakfast in the morning was no better. No staff to welcome us. Lot of elderly guests staying which needed assistance but no one offering especially when using the coffee machine. So I gave them the assistance required. Hot food kept running out. Coffee machine ran out of water but took two members of staff to work it out. Restaurant floor very uneven with some tiles even moving when walked on. I have received much better service at a B&B where the rooms are a fraction of the cost. When I checked out no food or drinks had been added to the bills. When I mentioned the state for the accommodation I received 50% off of one room and told all food was complimentary but still £243 for two rooms for one night was still more than double what the accommodation was worth in my view.

« Let down by restaurant »

The room was very nice. Not much informatión about local places to go. We had brought our dog and, as she was not allowed in the restaurant, we had to eat in the next door TV lounge. We had to take cutlery from tables as there were no others available. On the weekend, it wasn't too bad to get our breakfast although there was no comfy place to eat in the TV room. On Monday morning, with fewer guests, there were no teabags out, and the coffee machine was clogged up, giving only hot chocolate and hot water. Again, we had to raid other tables for crockery, butter (no margeriñe) and jam We had to wait to find a waiter, & my husband had to ask at reception to get his order placed. There was no menu of choices and both my husband and another guest asked for things that weren't on offer. No consideration seemed to be given for guests with dogs. The breakfast service on Monday was very poor for all guests. A menu would help. Better arrangements for guests with dogs need to be put in place. Spoiled an otherwise nice stay.

We were able to check in a bit early which was helpful. Check in was easy and staff helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Ample parking. Everything worked as it should.

When we arrived we met two lovely ladies reception. Sorted out our room keys and explained that we should not wait to be seated for breakfast, but to just find a table and choose our food. Good job she did. We didn't see any staff at all in the dining room at all whilst We were having breakfast. The room, although very spacious was also very shabby. It was obvious some water damage had occurred because of the stains on the ceiling. The wallpaper looked like it has peeled off the wall and someone has attempted to stick it back up. The edges of the wallpaper has curled back in itself leaving big gaps.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon to be greeted by the only member of staff on site as far as we could see. Fortunately the member of staff (her name was Paula) proved to be incredible, checking people in, serving in the bar, providing food and drink in the restaurant and sorting out customers who wee not happy with the room they had been given. Despite all of this going on at the same time she coped incredibly well and with a smile on her face and kind words to everyone.
