« Had a fantastic time »

We had a lovely room and the meals were really nice. We had our dog with us and they could no do enough for us.

« OK »

Comfortable room but the hotel is in an isolated location. Staff seemed a bit disinterested at times.

« Nice reception very poor restaurant staff »

Arrived to find a nice receptionist who checked us in. Rooms were Ok and spacious (have stayed before) went to restaurant to be sat at our table. From this point on was downhill. were told as they have a wedding and coach party in we had to order from a set menu. The was only 3 mains, Fish and chips roast beef and a veggie option. 1 ordered fish 3 ordered beef. 40 mins later when we asked where our food was, then they brought the mains out, At this point we hadn't even received the starters, we asked for bread rolls whilst we waiting an was told no they for coach party only and a very rude man showed the set menu and said " where do you see bread rolls on the menu" eventually we had the starters ( the soup didn't even come with a bread roll) and then the mains, the fish portion was tiny, the roast beef was like chewing leather. the desert was fine. we stay here every year to meet up with friends but this year will be the last time we stay here. as for the hotel the location is good and rooms a good size. some bits are dated some windows have rotted to the point of some of the frame missing.

Staff extremely helpful and friendly. The place itself was overall a bit broken. Everywhere certain things were broken or chipped. Our bathroom door was broken but was fixed. Water marks all down the wall near our room. The bed was lovely and comfortable and it could be a beautiful hotel if it was fixed and maintained better.

« Disappointing »

The staff were friendly and helpful enough but the food was very poor quality at breakfast and dinner (microwaved). My TV was also broken which I reported to reception at 8pm and they did nothing. Not even a report as you why it couldn't be replaced or moved rooms.

« No hot water and heating »

Well with not being able to shower after a long journey my trip was completely spoilt plus it still wasn’t resolved in the morning, I was constantly speaking with staff like many guest were. Not how I planned my weekend break to be

« OH DEAR! NO HOT WATER »

Overall the experience would have been good value for money. However, the lack of hot water for 50% of my stay was not acceptable

« Overnight stay for interview »

We had booked the hotel as it was the closest mercure to where I had job interview, we had read the many poor reviews on the mercure site but decided that it would be ok for a one night stay to ho ahead with the booking. On arrival the hotel looked pleasant from the outside and the staff greeted us warmly and professionally so we started to think the reviews were inconsistent. We were booked into a normal double room which was huge and very clean again against the trend of the reviews, the staff had said on arrival that there may have been a problem with the hot water supply if there was a problem we would be moved, the room and water were ok so we decided to stay despite going up in the lift which seemed very slow and claustrophobic Our problems didnt really start until we went to the restaurant for evening meal, we have eaten in some excellent mercure and novotel restaurants and the food and service has always been exceptional well we encountered the WORST SERVICE , MENU AND FOOD WEVE EVER BEEN SERVED IN A MERCURE hotel, the menu was on a scrappy page of paper the choice was abysmal God forbid if you happened to be a vegetarian or fussy eater. After some thought I decided on the fish served with vegetables and my wife went for the open burger, when it was served my fish meal looked like a poor imitation of a badly cooked children's school dinner meal there was no presentation and it looked like it had just been thrown on the plate, worse was to come when my wife was served her burger well I'm no cook but burnt on one side and raw on the other even I knew it was going to be inedible, we complained about the raw burger and her meal was removed with the chef will reccook and it will be back soon they left my meal so rather than let mine go cold I started to eat my meal expecting hers to come back however the waiter reappeared after about 5 minutes and suggested the cook was redoing the burger however after another 15 minutes her meal still didnt appear so we complained and was informed them we had no intention of paying for the meals however we was told well you've eaten the fish so you will have to pay for that, we asked if we could have some cheese and biscuits to take to the room had I not had a drink beforehand I would have have WILLINGLY gone to the pub down the road to get some decent well cooked food. Luckily the cheese and biscuits were ok and well received in the room without paying the tray charge. Breakfast was surprisingly excellent well cooked and fresh for a full English breakfast. The last problem we encountered on checkout was despite having booked and payed online before the stay I was charged for the room again, on querying this I was told I'd only booked on line not paid, at this point I would have WILLINGLY had a shout but my wife calmly informed the receptionist that we had paid and would she please check the details again, luckily she realised her mistake but offered no apology for her mistake and deducted the room charge from the bill and removed the food and drinks costs from the evening meal. I have been a loyal silver member of Accor and especially mercure for a very long time but I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS SHAMBOLIC PLACE AND DISGUSTING FOOD EVER AGAIN, the website suggests that 5he locals regularly use the restaurant for meals I can confirm that locals do not use this hotel and suggest that not many other travellers do either. The staff were the only reason I did not give 1 star as they were helpful polite mainly and dealt with the criticism of the food very well.

« Very poor in so many ways »

My room key did not work, had to be given a actual key, my aircon had no remote so did not work, my bath mixer tap would not turn into a shower as the Tap was really hard to move. Breakfast was poor, no freshly prepared fruit, cold hot food, cold plates, worst I have experienced for ages. Not to Mercure standards

« Comfortable with attentive staff. »

We arrived in the poring rain but we were greeted by two delightful ladies. We booked in and then went to see our friend living nearby. Steve, the night porter, was very helpful in many ways and a delightful character. Comfortable room and very pleased breakfast was served from 7.00 and we wanted to leave early to see our friend before going back to Dorset. The lady overseeing breakfast was also very helpful, we both had a delicious breakfast and I asked about the superb muesli which I was told was the chef's own recipe. If I lived closer I'd have to come for breakfast just for some more muesli!! (I'd like the receipe). As we were leaving the same lady who originally greeted us was on reception again and once more very helpful.

« Hotel very shabby »

Hotel was very tired stair carpets were dirty not hoovered and had paint on.Bath panel was very scruffy and worn out curtain liners were full of holes and the duvet cover had a hole in it.The windows weren’t double glazed and had paint on them from a very shabby decorating job

« Awful. Not worthy of calling itself a Mercure »

Shabby. Dirty. Poor service and poor value. You pick a chain hotel and become part of its loyalty scheme for two reasons - consistency and occassional perks. This hotel delivers neither to the point that your left wondering how it has managed to be a Mercure hotel and why you'd bother being a member.
