« Disappointing - no warning of major refurbishment »

Hotel public areas under major refurbishment, polythene sheeting, wet paint, looked like a building site. Even on Saturday morning they were painting outside our bedroom and had to walk over loose sheets on carpets in corridors. We ate on Friday evening food was good but drinks VERY overpriced. Just one member of staff running restaurant & bar (which involved leaving area going under plastic sheeting to collect some drinks) her family also seemed there for the evening having drinks etc. on the house. In the morning no one greeted us for breakfast, staff seemed to be helping themselves and eating alongside guests very odd and unprofessional. Bathroom for freezing cold with no obvious source of heating and no useable hanging space as directly over kettle. On a positive note the bed was excellent.

Nice and comfortable sleep in a good sized hotel room for the night. Your reception staff was fantastic. However, noticed tea stain marks on the side tables, an indication that the room may not have been dusted for a while, the extraction unit in bathroom comes on as soon you put you card, it may keep running all night if one does not use the lavatory and turns it off from the wall to serve energy. Lastly, I was surprised that work was going on at the reception and entrance hall to the room without it being mentioned on you website when I made my booking.

« Little disappointing compared to stays at other Accor / Mercure hotels »

The freshly refurbished room was very good. nicely decorated, comfortable bed and clean. However the hanging rail, rather than a wardrobe, was virtually useless, as long items hung over the kettle area and there was only one storage drawer, most of which was occupied by a hairdryer. We only stayed for 2 nights, but guests staying longer would have an issue with the lack of wardrobe/storage capacity. We arrived a 9:05 pm and was told that the restaurant was open until 9:30, but we were then told by the restaurant that it was closed. However, they did serve us a cooked meal, which was great, although by the time we'd finished, it was too late to order desserts and we weren't offered any. The hotel was in a state of refurbishment with 'wet-paint' warnings and dust covers hanging in the corridors and reception. The view from our room's window was blocked by scaffolding, so no view really, which also made the room dark. Also, I saw no mention of the ongoing refurbishment on the website, which would have been useful to know and probably a good thing to make customers aware before they arrived. The impression was that the refurb was complete from phrases, such as "..our newly refurbished rooms." During our first night stay, there was a lot of noise in the corridors caused by a youth football team running and shouting up and down the corridor until; 12:30am. I was about to leave the room and get them to stop, when another resident told them to "shut up and get into bed" We mentioned this to reception in the morning (Saturday) and they said they'd look into it. When we returned late Saturday evening, there was an apology and vouchers for 2 complimentary 'Welcome drinks', in the room, which was appreciated, although we didn't have chance to use them as we left the next morning (Sunday). Also on the Sunday morning, the same football team were making noise yet again from 7:30 am as they waited in the corridor. I asked them to keep the noise down, at that point. Another strange experience was when I originally booked the room. The room rate on the Accor website enabled us to book a room and pre-pay with member discount for around £132.00. However, when I called the hotel to book the room rather than complete online, the rate I was quoted was over £170. I was also told that they weren't yet participating in the Accor member benefits scheme and there was no 'pre-pay' option. So I returned to the website and booked online for the quoted rate. Had I been able to book one the phone at the same rate, I would have asked about the refurbishment. I've stayed at the Mercure Holland House in the Centre of Cardiff numerous times and usually seek out Mercure hotels when travelling on business, but for a range of reasons, listed above, this was my worst experience of Mercure/Accor to date. Admittedly, the noise problem wasn't your issue, but the other elements, such as the booking process, the room rate discrepancy, the inconsistency with information for the restaurant times and the view of scaffolding with no forward information or warning, just seems like a company that isn't customer centred. As my other experiences at Accor/Mercure have been very good indeed, I've rated this as a 6, although it probably should have been a 4, in reality. Quite a poor experience.

Stayed at old Park Inn many times over the last ten years. Stopped staying as food and service was awful.Thought i would give it another go as under the Accor Banner. Waitress didn't stop running in evening between tables,sadly my starter cold when i received it,she had gone to the main reception so didn't have chance to complain. The main meal not much better.

Very comfortable room walk in shower and a non steaming up mirror great. Slight problem the lighting arrangement although good for making one feel relaxed creates dark corners in the room - lack of central ceiling illumination. Breakfast served on cold plates - hope when refurbished restaurant this is addressed - seems a problem experienced at other hotels of the chain , WHY? Bar prices something of a RIP off one expects a mark up but not around a factor of around 90% above pub rates.

The hotel is under refurbishment. No one explained this when I booked. The airconditioning did not work in my room and the room smelt like new paint. The food was terrible. We were at an event and the bar was not stocked with anything that the guests wanted to drink. All in all it was a very unsatisfactory stay.

Get Outlook for WSFOLD20…14652 Attn of customer care. Further to my email on the complaint I submitted in your web site. I am happy to submit again, although this may not be word fir word as my first one. Our stay at the Cardiff north Hotel. Dates. 25th to 27tb September 2019. We were nit informed that the Hotel was under renovation, and that as result it would be covered in scaffolding and green covers on the scaffolding obscuring the window, whims also preventing the window to be opened or much light getting in. I. Addition to the light issue. The room was renovated to a good standard. However, all the lights were on the bed head wall. The opposite wall is a sort of charcoal grey, thus absorbing a lot of light.( no ceiling light). So most of the room remained quite dull. This issue is purely an observation. The bathroom is tastefully refurbished. Only issue here was, getting out of the shower on the first morning, I stood on something that stuck to my foot. When I looked it was two bits of nail clippings. When we booked in we were in formed that the cost for the breakfast was £10.00 each per day. And another issue was at dinner, having ordered the meals, and my partner new what wine wanted. So she ordered and I ordered a glass of red. I thought the bill was higher than I than I expected and paid it. And I checked to see if I had an itemised bill. But no. It was the next evening when we went to the bar. We had lunch out. So we decided on a glass of wine each and a packet of crisps. It was then I understood why the previous nights dinner was dear. The wind and the crisps came to £20.00. I think £9.00 for glass of wine is extortionate. We are pensioners, so bad we taken on the breakfasts, along with wine. Would have put another £76.00 on out bill. As it was, £36.00 for. 4 glasses of wine. Was expensive. This hotel, whilst obviously improving its standard, to me is nit a 4 star Hotel, and as such I feel they should not be charging the prices they do for Breakfast Aldo’s the wine. Brian. W..

Stopping over for the night after a drive back from Cornwall. I was welcomed at reception on check in and had a lovely refurbished room. Breakfast the next morning was a nice relaxed affair. Staff really friendly and helpful.

« Good but Room was Noisy »

It was good but we had no warning that the hotel was having construction work being done and that was outside our room! The majority of the noise though came from the interconnecting doors. These are not sound proof and could hear the neighbours all the time so when they were up we were! I felt there was no privacy due to this. I would suggest more light in the room as there wasn't a main light, only little one. The safe didn't work either but not a major problem for us. Brilliant breakfast on the weekend though. It was very disappointing considering how much was spent on the room on the break down and this didn't even include breakfast!

Refurb of rooms has been a great success. Plenty of sockets ans USB points around the bed and workstation. Evening meal was tasty but a little expensive. Waitress was very friendly. Breakfast is not the best experience - cereals in pretentious containers foe spooning into cereal bowls using thick, shallow, wooden spoons. No wonder there's a mess on the serving surface! Cooked breakfast was rather cold.
