Staff were friendly but I complained both in person and by email about our meal, my husbands gravy had big lumps in it out £12 pizzas were supermarket budget pizzas. I was promised a reply and got none! Our meal cost £69 and was horrible! So I do feel mixed. The breakfast in the morning was good. The beds were comfortable.

« Polite staff but shocking facilities »

Room was dated and tired, facilities were like something from the 1990’s, and although it looked like the hotel is going through some modernisation I was not made aware of this when booking. Poor night away in poor facilities. Staff were great though.

When we got there, we we’re given the room card and received no information about facilities, use of restaurant, check out time... when we got to our room it was very small room 119 and the decor looked tired. The tv was older then myself and the room didn’t have a clean feel. We went to the pool, where there were no lockers so had to bring our belongings to the pool side on a plastic chair. We then went back to our room for the shower to not be working. We called reception and was told that some rally team were in town and have used all the water and that there’s nothing they can do. So we couldn’t have a shower? We were also woken up by noisy visitors at around 2:30 running up and down the corridor. Overall the experience to was to that of a third world country. Atleast they can have a shower.

Room was of a good standard excellent breakfast Only minor gripe was bedroom window was screwed locked shut so no fresh air could get in. So room was a little stuffy thru the night.

« Friendly, if a bit tatty »

It looks like you have recently taken over this hotel. The staff were very friendly and the service excellent. The hotel is obviously being renovated. The old 'Moat House' look needs to be painted over! The bed was reasonably comfy, whilst the evening meal was good and the breakfast excellent.

« A tired hotel which needs some TLC »

The overall experience was OK, but suffered from little irritations mostly caused by lack of staff or just lack of care. The hotel feels like it needs a thorough face lift. Everywhere, with the possible exception of the breakfast restaurant, needs a lick of paint. Then little things spoilt what could have been good things. I pre-suthorised my credit card so that I could put dinner on the room and only pay one bill. When I went to do that the authorisation hadn't been put on the system. There was only one staff member in the bar who had to do all the bar work plus take food orders, and try to keep up with what was a fairly busy shift. This led to meals taking ages to come out and then being cold. The reception staff member was roped in to bringing out food, which sort of helped a bit. At breakfast our room number was taken but the 2 ladies working didn't feel any need to explain how breakfast was supposed to work. I don't suppose they get many orders for freshly cooked eggs as although that is offered it is only in a menu on the table and everything else is clearly a buffet so why, unless the staff point it out, would you bother reading a menu? There were no tea bags. I was told there was Earl Grey, which I hate. She did, when I pointed out that that isn't regular tea, run off and find some of what I wanted. But then you make it with hot water from a coffee machine that isn't hot enough to make tea properly ( a common problem these days to be honest). Breakfast could have been really good without these small but significant failings. The room was comfortable although a bit damp and in need of decorating, but the heating didn't work and the TV remote needed new batteries. Then when we checked out there was nobody at check out (8:30 am). We waited approx 10 minutes for someone to come. In that time we were able to read all the details of other guests as the lap top logged into the guest information had been kindly left open on the reception bar facing the customers (probably a data breach issue). We would stay again for 1 night only if we had to, but it wouldn't be first preference, but it could have been with a few more staff and some decorating.

Very sorry. We will NEVER stay here again. Check in was awful. Lady was rushed and stressed and your card machine didn’t work. So we had to pay cash. Which meant we didn’t have enough cash for the evening. Communal area scruffy. Room was grubby. Air conditioning didn’t work. Phone didn’t work. Safe didn’t work. We left at 8am. Horrid horrid place.

We have stayed at the Harlow Hotel several times now and we have never been disappointed. From Booking by phone to checking out the staff have been superb. The rooms are tidy and clean, the breakfast is spot on and always piping hot. Plenty to pick from at all times. And the late check out was most needed as we did not go to bed until 2am Sunday morning after the great Soul All dayer that we attended Saturday. Always a pleasure staying at the Harlow Accor Hotel. Thanks for a great stay...again. :)

Room nice, bed comfy. Would have liked a ground floor room (did request when booking) but staff did best to get me nearer the the first landing to avoid a long walk to the original room.

The room was basic and tired, but ok for one night. Fairly clean, although there was a bit of something nasty under the sink. Window was slightly loose, letting in cold air and traffic noise. Two teabags only. Thin duvet and no extra bedding. The room was a little cold. The long long corridors and the almost afterthought entrance to bedrooms are a problem of architecture, but you do get the feeling that, once you have stepped beyond the grand foyer, the bedrooms are a bit of an afterthought. You walk past a sign about an area no longer being used as a smoking area, then a sign about poisonous chemicals... supper was a farce. I ordered salmon. Was told 20 mins later that it was off.chose a salad which sounded nice. First a waitress came and apologised 20 mins after that that it had been left under the hot light for two long, then it arrived. If I had been less hungry and less scared that I wasn’t going to be fed at all I would have sent it back. £12.95 for a bag of spinach, one roughly chopped unripe pear, skin still on, a couple of peppadews straight from the jar, and some nondescript goat’s curd. No advertised lentils. But the dressing was nice. I was then billed for the fish. I sent back the bill, was charged for salad and chicken and my querying was questioned, until I explained that I was a pescatarian so would never order chicken. Breakfast was similarly chaotic. The self serve stations were empty, no fruit, no butter, no granola, no mugs, plates slightly dirty. Our table had been used. We were asked our room number but not welcomed, nor shown to a table, nor have someone clear it for us. We had to gather clean cutlery from unused sets at the other used tables around us. The staff seemed to view a request for a missing item as an affront. Kelly was good, seemed to be everywhere in the evening l, doing everything. I got the sense that the staff were doing the best they could despite the (mis) management and lack of training. Really this hotel needs looking at. I would have complained in person, but I was with my elderly mother for her brother’s funeral and didn’t want to sully the experience further for her. But over £90 for this! I travel a lot for work and, a bed bug infested youth hostel in Morocco when I was 17 aside, this is the worst hotel experience I have had. Premier Inn next time.
