Free upgrade which was lovely....lovely attentative reception checked us in.....corridors are very dark with black walls...lift drastically needs updating, making some very strange noises. Room was a privilege room but was very small, when extra bed was erected it left very little room to move. No plug sockets by the bed which was frustrating. Shower looked lovely but was very poorly maintained. Half of the holes were missing rubbers making a very poor shower. Poor design as no matter what you did the floor got soaked from shower. Overall the room had minor levels of dust but felt clean. Bed was very uncomfortable. The housekeeper with blonde hair roughly late 40’s was very helpful and made up the extra bed for my daughter. Breakfast was lovely; really think the setup that you have got works really well. All other receptionists we encountered didn’t initiate conversation with us when walking through reception. Overall a good experience but expected more than good from a brand like Mercure. Lacking the 4* guest satisfaction

« long wait for check in, closed Bar early, cold room, no hot water in morning,even longer wait for check out »

had to Que for 10-15 mins for check in! got back to the hotel after leaving a restaurant expecting to have a drink at the bar only to find everything was closed except draft beer? the room was cold at 06:30 am though that could have been something i did or 'didn't do'. then after waiting 10 min for the shower to warm up, i finally came to the conclusion there was no hot water. now already late down for breakfast i found myself yet again in a Que for check out. not great service, no apology or explanation.

« Comfortable hotel, food reasonable but there are some niggles that can be maddening for regular travellers »

I've stayed at the Mercure and when it was previously the Best Western on many occasions over the last 15 months. Usually for 2 or three nights per week. Generally speaking it is a good hotel, the food is nice but limited in choice, with menu that rarely changes. The rooms are clean and well appointed. There are some niggles though. As previously stated I have stayed and yet it is only recently that I haven't had to continually provide my details. Also there are regular issues with the wi fi, phones, pass key systems and TVs in the rooms. These shouldn't be too difficult to address and would improve the overall experience.

« Frustrating »

This is the first time I have ever complained, I have stayed in Accor Hotels at least 150 nights in the last couple of years Poor check-in experience, staff should be friendly and welcoming - why are the first words I hear are "are you checking in?" as opposed to "hello and welcome to our hotel" Wi Fi extremely poor - I couldn't work in the evening - reception staff did try to help Telephone in room not working so I had to go down to reception to order and when the food arrived and wasn't as described on the menu, I had to go back down to reception TV channels were missing and reception was poor Room service food was poor but corrected by the duty manager The Duty Manager was excellent really tried to make the situation better

« Poor Communication »

Booking made on behalf of a music act performing in Preston. Paid in advance for the reservation however a further £100 has been debited from the card used on the booking without the card holder being present of giving authorisation for room charges. Emailed reception, called reception & emailed accounts and still no reply. Very poor communication and acknowledgement to a customer complaint. Will be taking the issue higher

Hotel reception and dining area is nice and modern but its clear the bedrooms need updating. they're extremely small, stained carpets, dusty and the showers are broken. Breakfast was bad service, and no choice on eggs other than scrambelled. n

« Friendly staff but a couple of problems with the room. »

Check in was very easy and friendly, even though the guy at reception had only been working there two days! He helped me find bus times for the following day - the times were wrong but I appreciated that he tried to help. Unfortunately the room had a faulty light bulb and no TV remote, and I was woken up by workmen outside in the corridor. Also the chambermaid was knocking on my door at 9am to clean the room, which was a bit unexpected. She was nice about it but I thought it was a bit early to be cleaning.

« Now an average Hotel »

Hotel was good with the Marco Pierre White restaurant but now the food is just average, the fish taco was tasteless and the frozen chips served with the fish and chips were disgusting. The Gym is ok but when I used it the equipment was used and dirty and no clean towels. Have stayed at this hotel several times but my stay on Wednesday 23rd Oct was not up to the required standard.

I was very disappointed with my stay as basics in the room were missing / not working. Bedside lamp was missing a bulb Table lamp wasn't working Toilet roll was only 2 pieces one of which was made into a point. Heating is centrally controlled & if turned off at the heater in the room take 30mins plus to come back on. No heating in bathroom which makes stone floor a poor choice as it doesn't warm up sufficiently unless the room is boiling. Room key initially didn't work. Hotel is undergoing a refurb and the phones are being replaced. The reception staff didn't inform me & I had to call them on my mobile. When I later had a heating problem nobody answered. Nobody available to fix issues issues in evening and the only option is to move rooms. Not something you want to do in your sleepwear. Apologies only from staff no recompense before inconvenience.

Stayed at this lovely new mercury hotel. The hotel looks fantastic and the staff are excellent. I was upgraded to a privilege room due to my gold status, and I was offered a complimentary drink in the bar. Rooms are are super clean and comfortable. Will stay here next time in the area
