Cheap Stay with a few issues.

The hotel was overall a decent stay for the price I paid. We stayed during the month of ramadan and the ALL app provided a good rate in comparison to other similarly available hotels. The location was not as good as I hoped since I expected Mangga Dua Square to be better, however, most of the shops were closed and it appeared to be a shell of what it used to be. Another issue with the location, was parking/entry to Mangga Dua Square whereby if ordering a taxi to collect or drop you outside the hotel, it would occur a 5,000 IDR charge everytime, this adds up the more often you choose to go to and from the hotel. We stayed overall for 17 nights and had several issues during the stay. Firstly, the room we were initially assigned had a faulty shower head, dirt around the sink edge and a generally bad/stale smell in the room. I alerted the staff of the issue and they moved us to another room. But, the new room has the same problems with the addition of visible mould along the back of the cupboard. I again alerted the staff, to which they were unable to move us immediately as they prepared another room. They did change the shower head and clean the mould from the back of cupboard as we waited. This new room (although not an upgrade) appeared slightly bigger with the addition of a smart TV whereas the first room had a regular TV. They offered another room after which had a better smell, no visible mould and a working shower head. Dirt around the sink remained and the TV was a non smart TV. For these reasons we stuck with the second room. It was frustrating the issues we encountered but at least they attempted to resolve them. Another issue experienced was the linens. Both the bedding and towels would not smell fresh once changed, they would have a generally damp smell on them. Because of this, we avoided use of their laundry facilities. Furthermore, the pool access we had at the Ibis was actually the use of the nearby novohotel pool, which, was around a 5-10 minute walk from our room. The pool itself was very nice, but because we were ibis customers, our cards did not work for entry, which then required us to always ask a staff member for access, wasting more of our time. There were further issues too regarding the use of the ALL app to extend our booking. We decided to add an additional day to our stay, for which we found a deal which included a treatment at the Spa. We booked this extention around 5 days in advance and got confirmation from the staff that we were able to stay in our room for this extension. As this extension included spa treatment and breakfast, I requested whether we could use these bonuses before the extension date, but was told we were unable to. A few days later, we get a letter stating the spa would be closed for a few days, days which included our extended date, because of this I requested compensation because I paid a premium for the benefits which I could no longer receive. Staff told me it was my fault for not using the spa earlier, when I was told before I was not allowed. I had to escalate the issue with management as I had proof and was eventually given a reimbursement. It was frustrating to encounter another issue with the stay. Although I appreciate the endeavours by staff to remedy the issues encountered, it was surprising to encounter so many and also be faced with gaslighting from staff. Also, the fitness room facilities was incredibly small and basic such as no barbell even though a fixed chest press bench is within the room and photos, the dumbbells only went as heavy as 10kg and it did not have any sort of multi gym equipment to do a weighted squat or even pull ups. Additionally, the machines were essentially unusable since the padding to support the legs were only partially screwed on, so the padding on the left side of all the machines would slip off when attempting to workout. I reported this issue on the second day of our stay and it was never fixed. Thankfully I could use the pool for exercise. One good memory from the hotel was one of the housekeepers who did some cute towel art on a couple of the days. Again, the price was competitive too.

We had a good stay especially with the Novotel facilities being open for our use. Otherwise the rating would be much lower. Loved the pool and Gourmet Bar. Room was spacious, desk was a bit small but no major complaints
