You can rely on a Novotel to be simple but functional

We were satisfied with our Novotel City Center stay in Almaty. It’s a smallish affair with a relatively small lobby – but that’s Novotel for you. The rest of the ground floor is the large bar and further back, the restaurant. The room is usual size, with modern built-in furnishings, with a simple desk, chrome chair, similar chrome sofa, uber-simple coffee table and night stands. We appreciated the adequate number of electrical outlets. Lighting was sufficient. They had the usual ref, safe, electric water kettle, hair dryer. Outside the room was a hot-cold water dispenser as well as a shoe polisher which we also appreciated. The T&B had a unique door feature – the two sides of the T&B door folded outside and flat to the wall; to close the T&B, you pulled the wall doors inward – brilliant! We missed pen and paper pad, there were no art on the walls, and the curtains looked and felt like awful shower curtains. We also missed having a door to the toilet area. Breakfast was great, with a very wide range of food that we only saw in Hyatt Regency at Bishkek. Impressive!

Our flight was canceled so kids were exhausted but when we got to the hotel the kids thoroughly enjoyed the property and we had comfortable stay . We had rush back soon to the airport so we didn’t get experience and enjoy what we paid for . There was one feedback I had to give the staff who checked us in was amazing but later due shift change we had another lady at reception and her attitude towards dealing with us was not customer friendly at all . I was extremely upset and would not want to talk to her again and waited for longer time to speak to another lady at reception who went over and above to help us . I don’t remember the names but the staff who was really helpful was the one who helped book our taxis to airport and she was kind polite and perfect front office staff who you would like to interact with

I liked breakfast very much and the room was clean- it was the most important. Quite negative experience before check out- after asking 2 times to prepare the invoice -at the night of arrival and 1 day before check out- invoice was not prepared, company details lost- it took ~30 minutes to get correct invoice. Also, missing dust bags for my shoes in the room- hope to get refund or new dust bags for my shoes.

Doesn't meet service standards as expected. Though communication is a problem, the staff needs to be trained & motivated

Though the location is good. The service was far below the experience expected from a star hotel. The staff don't even respond when you wish them sometimes. The expectation is that they wish every guest though! The staff needs to be trained and motivated to serve guests properly. Doesn't meet the expectations. it's not value for money. The rooms are too small and highly-priced.

The wifi connection in the room was poor, it was mainly hard to work. I reported it, but obviously nothing could be done. Internet should be one of the priorities nowadays. My colleague had major problems with gluten free meals. It seemed that the staff really do not understand what it means at all; about danger of contamination etc. Suggest to organiza good trainings, as it is not just a request, but health issue. At earle check out 6.30 I requested a breakfast box. When leaving it occured that "the kitchen did not bring the box yet, could you have breakfast in ther restaurant?" No, I could not because the car was already waiting. Poor service at that moment.
