The hotel needs to improve to ensure they are as 5 star rated as they claim. Check in was a lengthy affair, due to the coaches arriving al at the same time. It was nearly 1 pm and I was told they guaranteed check in by 3 and they would call if the room was ready before then. Nobody called, I went to the front desk to check if it was ready as it was really cold weather and I wanted to go in the room. Annoying. The room was spacious and comfortable but it was in an area with all the back of house activities going on, with trolleys of laundry other clean and dirty hanging around. Check out is at 10, which seems very early considering check in is at 3. Staff seemed unprepared to deal with all the guests. On a positive note, it is the best of the whole Ayers Rock resort and a few minutes away from the town centre.

Well worth the extra … a haven to return to after seeing the sights

A really lush experience. From the moment we arrived we were so well taken care of. The airport transfer driver gave out so much useful info and the Sails In The Desert was blissful. The breakfasts and dinners were superb. We opted for the buffet on two nights and I have to say hands down the quality of the food was outstanding. A full seafood selection, salads, curries, carvery, cheeseboard, cakes, ice cream, chocolate fountain. All beautifully presented. We decided to go top end for this leg of our Aussie adventure as the two main attractions can be hot, challenging and risky (weather wise). The Sails provided us with everything we wanted to return home to in order to unwind. We made use of our chill out day to do laundry … washers & dryers … all free including detergent ! The staff are superb, going the extra mile at every turn. Don’t procrastinate. Book this early to avoid disappointment. It’s well worth it.

Improvement needed o cater for guest experience in wet weather

We used Luxury Escapes vouchers gifted by our children for our first visit to the Red Centre and stayed at Sails in the Desert. The hotel itself has some good features, such as the buffet breakfast choice, and cleanliness within the main areas. Staff were generally helpful - there were many staff in training. Overall, the hotel lacked somewhat in being able to cater to its guests during wet/cooler weather, which is what we experienced in most of our three night stay. While it can't be held responsible for this type of unexpected weather in March, with many planned activities cancelled, and the conditions too cold for the pool, we spent most of our time in our rooms. This was partly because the whole main area was freezing with many people sitting inside in jackets (as the air conditioning was not adapted to suit the temperature drop outdoors). The TV in our room (and across the whole complex we were told) did not work when raining; the spa room always had a sign up that treatment was in progress which appeared to be incorrect, and on the four-five occasions we called reception, no-one ever answered. A little disappointing for our first visit, and amongst other poor experiences with other missed tourism opportunities/no call backs, I don't think we will come back.

The rooms are fabulous and spacious and we really didnt hear any noise of other people coming and going. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The meals are overpriced along with the drinks, but you will find that everywhere you go. Meals usually arrived lukewarm or cold The pool is amazing and very refreshing

Felt like a tropical break in the desert!

Enjoyable visit in very hot March temperatures 40C every day Staff were all wonderful, room although looks outdated from the exterior was large and comfortable. Resort is clean and big - pool was fantastic with enough day beds/loungers for all. Yes food and drink are expensive but other than a terrible lunch curry we had on day 1 (hence very good score), we really enjoyed breakfast, poolside lunch food and the Ilkari buffet dinner. We ate at Mangata restaurant which was also good. Very relaxing weekend!
