Fantastic welcoming front desk, all the staff were very professional. Free parking on site. Our room was unbelievably good. Evening meal was excellent, again all the staff were super. Breakfast was second to none, nothing was too much trouble, staff are so well trained it made our stay so good. Would definitely recommend this hotel, mainly because of the superb stall, ( especially the pretty lady with tattoos behind the bar, sorry for not remembering your name)

Not Pet Friendly

I booked this hotel via secret escapes. Information said “pet friendly” Received confirmation so emailed the hotel to inform them I was bringing my dog. Was informed there would be an extra charge of £15 a night, ok, can understand that. . Also Received an email saying he was not allowed in the restaurant (which I totally understand) or the bar. Breakfast would be room service or we could leave him in the room. Personally I would not say this hotel was “Pet friendly” as advertised. Either dogs are accepted or not. Just incase you are thinking about booking and taking a pet.

Unfortunately with third party sites there is a limit to what we are able to display which is why we send out the pet policy before arrival so there are no surprises. While we understand your concerns about the restrictions in certain areas of the hotel as we only have one bar and restaurant we have to strike a balance to ensure the comfort and safety of all guests, including those who may have allergies or other concerns. As you mention we are more than happy to serve breakfast in your room or for that matter dinner from the MPW restaurant should you wish. After a luke warm, and that's being kind, welcome to the hotel our room was perfectly adequate and very quiet overnight. The restaurant was full so we couldn't dine in but did visit the bar. Drinks a bit expensive but you expect that. The cost of the 'nibbles' was prohibitive i.e. £2 for the bowl about the size of a McFlurry ice cream cone so not very good value for money at all. We have stayed at many Mercures over the years but would we stay here again - No. Whilst well situated the lack of warmth at check-in dictates that we'd give somewhere else a try.

Very nice hotel dog friendly which was essential for us nice rooms very clean parking is extra and dogs are extra but still very reasonable local to shops and places to eat , staff very accommodating, showers are very good , can’t fault it we use this hotel all the time we visit our family

Positives Room upgrade on arrival Very good and friendly service from the tattooed lady behind bar No plastic key card Free water in reception and room fridge Air con works Proper sized mugs in room not teacups Comfortable bed Good sized walk in shower Large and comprehensive, refillable toiletry bottles Jug of water provided in restaurant without being asked Calamari was fresh Steak was cooked as I asked Mattress had a topper and pillows were comfortable Young female bartender (with tattoos) was very friendly, professional and went out of her way to provide excellent service Negatives Accor membership not acknowledged on arrival Had to ask when breakfast was Had to ask where breakfast was Had to ask what the parking arrangements were Zero information offered on check in Not advised when I booked for dinner that if I booked for an earlier time I would get the early bird special (saw a flyer in my room so changed my reservation) Waited 5 mins to be seated in restaurant when there was only one table in there with a group of ten Not given the early bird menu, only the more expensive a la carte (had to ask for it) When I asked to swap the tomatoes (to which I am allergic out) I was told I could choose another vegetable dish but was refused onion rings! What are they, fruit?! No steak knife despite this being a steakhouse (I saw a la carte diners being given them after I had finished but no early bird diners got them! Wine was average for the prices charged. Merlot was positively insipid. I know restaurants have a 400% minimum mark up on wine but I don’t like my nose being rubbed in it. Wine I can get for £9.99 full price in the supermarket being charged at over £10 a standard glass. I don’t like my nose being rubbed in it. Wine did not arrive until I chased it when I already had my starter Breakfast finished at 9am – not much of a leisure break when you have to set the alarm early to eat! All the hot items on the breakfast buffet were tepid at best, verging on cold (at 8am) Bacon had been left there so long it was like cardboard Fried eggs were solid, they had been left so long Coffee came from a self-service machine and barely tasted of coffee, having an unpleasant sweet undertone When I arrived at breakfast I was left standing for 5 minutes waiting for a member of staff, despite only three tables being occupied and being seen by a member of the team , who just continued folding napkins When the second server saw me she shouted from the end of the restaurant to tell me to sit anywhere, rather than coming up and showing me to a table I then had to find her to ask if it was all self-service; she was very interested to know my room number so I could be charged however! Service in this hotel is greatly sub-standard and I think there is a complacency because of the lack of chain competition in this town and the high occupancy rates due to the huge influx of people for the nuclear power project. Summary Hotel, food and service was acceptable but could do so much better.

It was great to see that you found the bed comfortable and appreciated good-sized walk-in shower. It is also great to know that you found the Bella behind the bar to be friendly and provided very good service. We apologise for any inconveniences you experienced during your stay. We understand your frustration regarding the lack of information provided upon check-in, we are a predominantly business hotel with regular guests so I'm sorry that the team didn't recognise you as a first time visitor and ensure the went through things such as where breakfast was served, please rest assured that I have discussed this with the Reception Manager so he can feedback to the team the importance of dealing with each guests as an individual rather than just robotically check them in. I'm sorry that you had issues during your dinner and found breakfast to be below standard I will be discussing this with the Head Chef and Restaurant Manager when they are in later this week as the early bird menu should be treated the same as the "normal" menu and the breakfast chef should be monitoring the buffet throughout service to ensure the quality is maintained.
