In my recent trip to Monaco, I stayed in Fairmont Monte Carlo. Opened in 1975 when the late Princess Grace Kelly was the opening guest, It was originally managed by an American hotel chain called the Loews Hotel group, until the French hotel chain Fairmont took over in 2004. What made this hotel legendary was not only it was built along the meditteranean coast up the famous rocks of Monaco, but what else? The legendary hair pin corner of the F1 track. Over the years, many celebrities like Whitney Houston and Andre Agassi are guests of the hotel, making it one of the most iconic hotels in the equally iconic Monaco. The room that I stayed this time is the double queen bed studio room. At around 300 square feet, I was surprised that it can actually accommodate two Queen beds and still managed to have quite a generous space. All the facilities like the luggage rack, television, workstation and a small table were included without feeling too cramp. Another feature of this room is its balcony. Facing the rocks, it is actually a very tranquil sight. Overall, this room is really cosy despite showing its age, and for its price during the Monte Carlo tennis masters series, the average price of £600 per night is actually quite reasonable given the notoriously expensive cost of living in Monaco. But of course, if you choose rooms with the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, the price will be at a different level. And if you book this hotel during the F1 season, I have to say you have to be crazy rich to stay in this hotel. For the bathroom, the design was actually more modern than the room. In particular I really like their use of white marble stone, which was really well kept and I have to give credit to the room service staff for their effort in keeping the bathrooms in such a pristine standard. As for bathroom amenities, they have used Le Labo, which is a very decent brand. While I consider the quality to be slightly one notch down when compared to brands such as Balmain used in Sofitel hotels or Diptyque in MOs, this brand is actually not bad. However, the Accor group has stopped providing dental kit unless hotel guests specifically request that, which I think is slightly inconvenient to me. I also don’t like the fact that the showering facilities are not provided separately, which I think might be slightly dangerous when guests had to step in the slippery surface of the bathtub for showering. As for food, the Nobu restaurant was temporarily closed, and the lobby lounge has become the only restaurant in the hotel that served food. Having tried a couple of dishes in my entire stay, I have to say the food is decent by not super impressive at such a price. Whether it’s the club sandwich, the avocado toast, the duck confit or its dessert, it has strong vibes of five star hotels in the 80s. However, what I like the most for this restaurant is the overall ambience, as you can have this breathtaking sea view. While I’m really tempted to sit outside, the really hot Monaco weather and the occasionally aggressive seagull had prevented me from doing so. Overall, if you are adamant in having gourmet style food in Monaco, there are actually quite a number of Michelin starred restaurants in the proximity of this hotel. As for breakfast, don’t expect this buffet style one to be comparable with the ones served by the St Regis Singapore or the Four Seasons Hong Kong that I had in 2019 and 2021 respectively. And at €42, again you have plenty of choices in the proximity of this hotel. The breakfast they served are also better. Just look at this beautiful breakfast set at the Cafe de Paris, which is €10 cheaper. As for fitness facilities, the Nikki Beach has got lots of vibes of a beach party. The only catch is if you want to secure a Cabanna, you first have to pay a minimum of €200. You will also have to order at least €300 worth of alcohol drinks. Definitely not worth the price considering the Larvotto beach is just minutes away and again, plenty more restaurants and bars that charged you one tenth of the price. As for the gym, it was quite large with lots of facilities like the treadmill, dumb bell, smith machines and many strength training facilities. Overall, my Fairmont Monte Carlo staying experience was faultless. However, I have to say the next time I visit Monaco, I would definitely stay in the Hotel De Paris, as from the design to its room and Michelin starred restaurants, it is definitely at another level, including the price of course.

It should be a 5 star

It was my first time in Monaco, let alone at a Fairmont hotel, and I was extremely happy with this hotel. Not only is the hotel/the room spacious and clean, the hotel is stunning, in a great location and all staff members we encountered were super polite and friendly. The room was beautiful, and I loved the Le Labo products. Any time we needed help or service, the staff were there and did everything they could to make us happy - and they did! Not sure why this is a 4 star, as it should definitely be a 5 star. Before I stayed at this hotel, I had another Monaco trip booked in October with this hotel, so I was hoping it was going to be a good one - and I'm so happy we have our 2nd holiday booked with them as it exceeded all expectations. We also dined in their Lobby Lounge and had room service a few times and the food was excellent!

Hotel is very conveniently located, rooms have been renovated! Concierge service is very good, it can be reached anytime though the whatsapp application and they reply very quickly! Breakfast is good, although during this stay it was located in the ex-casino area, not the best of places, BUT from May onwards it is going to be back on the 7th floor with the magnificent sea views!!!

Dear Mister S., We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Fairmont Monte-Carlo. We are thrilled to hear that you found our hotel’s location convenient and that you were pleased with the renovated rooms. It’s great to know that our concierge service met your expectations with their prompt responses via WhatsApp. We appreciate your feedback regarding the temporary location of the breakfast area. Rest assured, starting from May, breakfast will be served on the 7th floor, allowing you to enjoy the magnificent sea views once again. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon. Sincerely, Alexandre Ariel Hotel Manager Fairmont Monte Carlo
