On arriving at 11.30 am on the 13th of April, there was some reluctance from the Receptionist in advising us (by telephone) when our bedroom would be ready to occupy by 3pm that afternoon. With the help from the Bar Person, who enquired on the room availability on our behalf, we occupied our room at around 2pm. Room 206 was perfectly respectable. Unfortunately we had very little sleep, there was a very drunken party noisily moving in to their room at 2.30 am. We chose to leave the hotel early, we were exhausted,, without having the “complimentary”breakfast, which was included in the overall £186.00 that we paid for our stay. No offer of sympathy for our stay, or refund for not having breakfast, all very disappointing !

Having specifically booked a room with a walk-in shower (i.e. NOT over a bath), due to my wife's arthritis, which was confirmed in November last year. We were very disappointed to be told on arrival that the room had been given to someone else! With no explanation or apology. This made her bathroom experience very difficult and blighted our whole stay. The room A/C failed during our stay but was repaired on the same day. The shelf in the wardrobe and the various drawers had to be cleaned before we could put our clothes in them we doubt they had ever been cleaned.

Superb location, couldn’t fault that, right next to Winchester Cathedral and a few minutes walk from the shops, restaurants and pubs. Car park on site (chargeable at £15 a night) however it is a tight car park with not many spaces, so come with an alternative option during peak season. Check in was okay, receptionist could have been a bit more informative as did not tell us what time or where breakfast was or bar/restaurant opening times, came back later in the day and someone else gave us the information. Arthur in the bar was fab, very attentive and can tell he enjoys his job- an asset to your team. Rooms were clean, bed comfy, however the hotel and rooms are looking very tired now, and it could do with a refurb.

I’m so glad that you had an enjoyable time during your stay at The Mercure Hotel Winchester Wessex. We just changed all our bedroom carpet and curtains. We are now painting the last few bedrooms and then we will start with the public areas. First come, first served parking is available and when our carpark is full there is a public carpark across the road. We hope we can welcome you back to the property in the near future.
