As an art collector myself, I jumped at the chance to stay in the 21c. It did not disappoint. The art was beautiful and thought-provoking. The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed. I particularly appreciated the Malin & Goetz products and shower water pressure.

Terrible management and hidden fees

“I chose to stay here for my 50th birthday weekend, and it could not have been a worse stay at a hotel. From the time we checked in, and they had us in the wrong room, it was nothing but problems from there. They did compensate for the mixup, but nothing that I was told would be done before we arrived was done, the spa tried to put a 20% automatic gratuity onto my cancellation. And, as a service provider and a small business owner, I could not fathom charging a client, an automatic gratuity, and a service they didn’t receive on top of their deposit that is nonrefundable. If, in addition, when my partner went for his massage, I had specifically told him to leave an If in addition, when my partner went for his massage, I had specifically told him to leave a 15% tip. He did and then I got a phone call later telling me they had just implemented a new system in the spa and had under charged the tip and they would be redoing the bill and adding another $16 to the bill. I wouldn’t have had a problem paying the original 15% and making it a $32 tip, however, a hotel that size should NEVER reach out to a guest and tell them they are now charging them more money because THEY made a mistake. They fully admitted it was their error because they had just implemented the system that day, and they were working through the kinks/bugs/learning curve. It’s not my fault/problem that they did not take the time to learn their new system properly before implementing it. That’s what training is for. This was not my fault. They should have eaten the $16 cost and never said a word to me about it. That’s outrageous that a hotel that charges that kind of money for spa treatments and to stay there will nickel and dime someone when it was their error and a small amount of money). I could not imagine reaching out to one of my clients and telling them I had undercharged them and I was now going to run their card again. I am a solo service provider, and I would never consider doing that unless it was a truly a significant amount. I don’t consider $16 a significant amount. Also, for the price of the rooms, they are quite mediocre. The bathroom was stylish, although we had broken fixtures/tiles in ours. Know that you will pay $40 a night to valet park. Or, you can park about a block away for only a few dollars less. I will never stay at one of their locations again. Absolutely the worst hotel experience I’ve had in many, many years. And, all the money I wasted for such measly accommodations. What a 50th birthday gift (insert two thumbs down).

I enjoyed staying downtown and close to the restaurants and walking distance from most things. The hotel vibe was cool with art and different things to stop and look at. Love the connected bar and restaurant and courtesy shot of bourbon.

This should not be an American Express Fine Hotel

I don't know why this is featured on American Express Fine Hotels. The room though spacious needed a remodel. The banquet in the room with benches had torn, dirty soiled fabric. We asked to move to another room, and we were moved but moved to a smaller room. The room service food was terrible. When I ordered toast, I got one piece of toast, grape jelly, and no butter. There were no yogurt pancakes or French toast. The offerings were very slim. My husband ordered oatmeal; it was just a hard blob in a bowl, no brown sugar, no milk, no fruit or nuts. Strange! We only had it twice due to the included breakfast with our hotel purchase, and on both days it was equally horrible. Pricing at $39 per night seemed high for Cincinnati.
